ABOUT WEST AFRICAN UNION UNIVERSITY (WAUU)

WEST AFRICAN UNION UNIVERSITY (WAUU)

The story behind the West African Union University, Cotonou was a more impressive one starting from a lowly background as Prestige Tutorial Center, the activities of the small organization that impressed on itself the responsibilities of providing well cut-out tutorial services to young people who were taken national examination such as WAEC-SSCE and JAMB examinations both in Lagos and Owo, Ondo State.
The excellent result earned within a spate of two to three years of this well-nourished tutorial services compelled the organization to seek affiliation with the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Otto-Ijanikin, Lagos as an administrator in-charge of the Dopemu-Agege Satellite Center of the college of education in 2005 with over 100 students.
The excellent performance of the center in the first year of its operation earned it the best coordinating centre for the year 2006. The operation of the organization went more advanced in 2007 when PECOX Global Inv. Ltd was registered and in 2009 Prestige Educational Consultancy Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company as against its earlier business name status.
PECOX GIL and Prestige Educonsult Ltd are major players in educational consultancy industry in Nigeria, the two companies at one time or the other have affiliations with credible institutions in Nigeria and abroad with credible affiliation with such prestigious schools such as the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile ife, Olabisi Onabanjo University Consult, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Yewa Central College of Education and Pinnacle African University, Porto Novo.
The experiences of affiliation programs instill in the company to further its reach by providing more enabling educational services at tertiary levels as a global player.
A good and successful attempt was made to establish Prestige College of Education, Agege, Lagos, it is worthy of note that this gesture has reached it final approval stage only waiting for the NCCE approval.
In its thought of a global university with a wider reach to the nooks and crannies of Africa and beyond, our searchlight beamed to the Republic of Benin because of her proximity to the Federal Republic of Nigeria where the idea was conceptualized and its francophone nature of French language that is popular within the West African region.
Our (WAUU) intents are among other things to build very conscious young Africans who are determined to turn around the fortune of this great continent for the better, particularly to raise all levels of manpower needs in all sectors of our daily life and enshrine a new value system for the continent by meeting up the challenges of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Poverty Alleviation Programmes across Africa and beyond.
Our operations had since being upgraded to meet all the objectives of the continental goals of better African society where potent leaders are abundantly available to build a more provident, productive, profitable, protected and popular African nations.
WAUU has not only poised to contribute to the technical growth and overall development of the nations of Africa, but to jealously protect her environment and nourish her to a high level of productivity through the churning out of graduates of full baked status who are well in tune with the torch of excellent academic programmes the University has designed to help Africans to reach our deserved places in global mark of honour.
The increasing need towards building a future for the army of young people in Africa who are totally committed to building enduring legacies has placed a greater burden on the promoter of this young university to contribute his quota to the liberation of the continent through affordable, quality education of an international standard.
The yearnings of prospective but brilliant young men and women of African descents have now been answered with the establishment of the West Africa Union University, Cotonou, Republic of Benin to sufficiently acquire hi-tech academic and professional competence in their chosen career with legitimate degree of freedom.
The Philosophy of the University is embedded in its motto "Knowledge is the insurance against ignorance"

THE ESSENCE OF EDUCATION

THE ESSENCE OF EDUCATION
Education is the knowledge of basic skills, technical discipline. These skills are associated with the value of knowledge it’s the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Looking around the world today, I feel like we have lost our understanding of the true essence of education. Quite a large number of students today simply go to school because they feel obligated to do so. Others go to school just for the benefit of being able to say that they also had an education.
I remember when I was little, and in primary school, most children my age didn’t like the idea of going to school. They cried their eyes out every school day while I on the other hand was always excited about going to school. True, school wasn’t always fun, but the thought of learning something new always got me psyched and as I grew up and got promoted, my knowledge also increased. The hunger for more knowledge never stops.
WHAT IS EDUCATION?
Education is the culmination of facts, experiences, and thought that is gained over a lifetime. It is the useful part of learning.  According to Wikipedia definition, Education is said to be the process of facilitating learning, it is also said to be the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits.
  • Education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession, a degree, level, or kind of schooling; a university education.
  • It gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better.
  • It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life.
Judging from all these definitions that are given, education is not just all about receiving lectures in the four walls of a class room. There are no restrictions where education is concerned. It's not just about knowing all the formulas in mathematics, its not just knowing how to speak good English, its not just about being the best in our various classes or departments, while those are vital components of education, lets ask ourselves these questions, “is that really the essence of education?” “What happens after School?”

Quite a number of graduates from different institutions have been asked what they plan to do with their lives after school. In most cases many of them do not have an idea of what they want to do, one reason probably been that they were too busy bothering about grades than taking out time to think about the big question “What Next?”. They approach life with a mindset of ‘what will be will be’. The truth is that we cannot face the challenges or overcome obstacles that have plagued us for so long with that kind of mindset. It just doesn’t work that way! The bigger picture should be how we can restructure our mindset and focus on preparing ourselves to face the real-life challenges.
A lot of students will say” Oh, how I miss school life” But in truth, you shouldn’t miss it. You should see your graduation from the university as a stepping stone to the more adult class which is popularly known as “LIFE” because in Life, you don’t get warned before tests or exams are handed to you, it’s the reverse. Life tests you first, and then u learn your lesson!
What are the benefits of education?
  • Education helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make better choices and decisions
  • It increases economic growth and stability.
  • It is an invaluable tool that liberates the minds of individuals to an elevated state of understanding and potential.
  • It enhances the lives of individuals and allows the society to develop and flourish.
  • It gives meaning to life. It gives us reasons to be hopeful.
Education is currently highly priced, with financial burdens serving to be a limiting force for many potential students. The ultimate tool to really increase the abundance of educational opportunities begins in the very least at lowering the tuition fees. Lets always keep in mind that education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.
